Dominican Republic Tourism Boom

Santo Domingo.- Entrepreneurs will invest more than US$9 billion in tourist projects in Dominican Republic’s major resorts, said Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia Wednesday.

The works will begin in the coming weeks in Bavaro, Punta Cana, Miches, Sabana de la Mar and Juan Dolio, in the east; Puerto Plata in the north, and San Juan River and Samana in the northeast, investments he said will strengthen the Dominican destination in the world’s major markets, especially Europe.

Garcia said the investments are also to build golf courses, international tennis courts and a convention center in Santo Domingo, among others. “Tourism is emerging as a market of high quality and it’s booming. Domestic and foreign investment is at its best, even better than in the past 20 years.”

The official noted that there’s currently no Latin American or Caribbean tourist destination with better profitability that Dominican Republic’s, “where reuests to develop new investment projects arrive daily. This compels us to develop a plan of vital infrastructure.”

New Challenge

Since end of March I am no longer with Oasis Resorts & Hotels. I took a long vacation and must say that I never enjoyed live so much as in the past 3 months. Enjoyed our house, the apartment, the family and our garden. I went to the beach almost every day, sometimes early in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon or the evening, whenever i felt for it. Had great pleasure in cooking lunch and spoiling Amparo with some new creations, doing BBQs with friends, cooking some real German classics like roast pork with bread dumplings, sausages with sauerkraut or different stews. Now almost all ingredients are available here on the island, also German butcher shops or bakeries are offering great products .A wide variety of German and European beers are also on the market.

At the moment I am at a hotel in Juan Dolio doing a consulting job until the end of this month, checking menus, buffets and staff training, ordering  new equipments and planning of some food outlets. I really enjoy doing that and it’s a new experience, August 15th I will start  a new challenge at a hotel in Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata, more about that later.

Have a great weekend.

Lizards

Got these shots of lizards the other day in our garden

Avocados

Today we had our first avocados from our tree, look at the size of them!! Delicous, with some ground black and pink pepper and lime juice, together with Dominican Sancocho, rice and homemade hot sauce.

Our garden and avocados

The avocados are getting huge, some of them must weigh a pound, maybe another couple of weeks and they are ready to eat.
