Eco jewellery

Amparo has been contracted by IDDI( Dominican Institute of Intregation and Devolpment) to teach local girls how to make jewellery out of natural and local products. The purpose of this program is to prepare people of the low income society so they can create their own designs and have some income, another reason is to help local craftsmen to produce and sell their products as the local market is full of imported souvenirs from China, Phiilipines, Taiwan or India. This first course is for girls from El Javillar, Agua Negra and Playa Oeste, other courses are planned for Sosua and other areas. At the end of May a fair will be held at the UASD university in Puerto Plata, where local artists and craftsmen can exhibit and sell their products made exlusive of local material, it is going to be a 3 day event with music and different activities where everybody can purchase real art made in the province of Puerto Plata, items such as larimar, petrified wood, leather, ceramic, ambar, wood carving, wall pictures made out of palm leaves omd manu others. As soon I have more deatilas and dates, i’ll let you know.
